Pain is a Message

When’s the last time you felt good?

This is a question I often ask new patients—especially those dealing with multiple health complaints and chronic symptoms.

Then, I follow up: Can you remember what life was like for you at that time?
How were you eating? What did your exercise routine look like? How was your stress level, your relationships, your work?

Our work—and when I say our, I mean you and me or you and your healthcare practitioner—is to figure out what your body needs, both internally and externally, to be in a state of balance, health, resilience, and vitality.

It’s our job, together, to be detectives. To listen, observe, and truly understand what your body is asking for.

This is what I call your secret sauce—the unique combination of practices that keep you feeling your best. And here’s the thing: it changes. What your body needs shifts with the seasons, with life circumstances, and even as you age.

Unfortunately, most of us don’t fully realize what our secret sauce is until we start feeling bad again.

When we feel good, we tend to back off the very things that got us there in the first place.

That’s human nature.

For me, my secret sauce includes:
✔ Strength training 2-3 times per week
✔ Time in nature (often a walk, at least three times a week)
✔ Daily time in prayer and meditation
✔ GI support and avoiding processed foods and gluten
✔ Prioritizing vegetables and whole foods
✔ Supporting detoxification with dry brushing, sauna, and liver/gut-supporting supplements
✔ Mobility and stability work

But when I fall off the bandwagon—which always happens at some point—I notice it quickly. And then I look back and analyze: What has my life looked like for the past couple of weeks?

It’s taken me years to figure out these pieces—what my body, mind, and soul need to thrive.

Yet we live in a society that does not support our biological health.

From an early age, we’re taught to ignore our body’s signals.

We’re told when to eat, when to use the restroom, and when to wake up—whether or not it aligns with our natural rhythms. School start times, work schedules, artificial light—so much of modern life runs counter to our biology.

And in the medical world, the focus is often on eliminating pain, when in reality, pain is an important message.

Pain isn’t just something to suppress—it’s a signal.

A cue.

A red flag from your body saying, Hey, something is off.

This is exactly why I developed The Foundations for Functional Health.

Through these programs, we address the most essential pillars of health—so you can tune into your body, understand its messages, and give it what it needs.

You can start with any course except for Detox—choose the one that feels most relevant to where you are right now. But in truth, I believe every single person benefits from going through all of them. Each pillar is a crucial piece of the bigger picture.

This is about teaching you how to take care of yourself.

Empowering you to make the choices that restore balance, vitality, and resilience—so you can live with peace, joy, and the health that nature intended.

Because while I can be your guide, mentor, and cheerleader… only you can make the changes your body truly needs.

Are you ready to start listening?

Your body hears everything your mind says. Stay kind to yourself.
